Our Story

Land to create a Millennium Green was purchased by the residents of Oxenhope with funding from the Countryside Agency, the Millennium Commission (a project supported by the National Lottery) and other donors to celebrate the Millennium.

A Trust was established to oversee the financial, maintenance and well running of the Green.

If you appreciate and enjoy Oxenhope Village Green and care about its future, why not consider getting involved.

If you would like to have a chat about what is involved, or to answer any questions you may have, please do get in touch.

What We Do

Manage the Village Green

Volunteer Trustees oversee management of the Village Green. The Trust is a registered charity currently with 6 Trustees, including a nomination from the Village Council.

Undertake Repairs

The Trust periodically commissions repairs and improvement works and also coordinates occasional  ‘working parties’ with other volunteers to meet on the Green and assist with repair and maintenance.

Organise the Village Fete

In normal times the Trust organises the annual Village Fete. This popular event is usually held on the third Saturday in July. Proceeds from the Fete help the Trust to maintain the Green for the benefit of all.

Getting Involved

The Trust organises maintenance including grass cutting, tree and path works.

The Trust and volunteers ordinarily organise the annual village fete. A number of people volunteer to help with the fete, including residents, the local Young Farmers Group, Church and School groups and others. Setting everything up on the day and clearing the Green at the end of the event is quite a task and volunteer helpers are always welcome.

In addition to the fete, volunteers from the village also come together on an ad hoc basis to undertake works including litter picks and repairs. As an example, in March 2020, 14 volunteers helped re-establish a path washed away in flooding.

If you would be interested in helping with the fete or being made aware of occasional working parties on the Green, please do get in touch.

Donate Today

The Millennium Green Trust maintains the Green for the enjoyment of all living in or visiting Oxenhope.

Sponsorship income and proceeds from other donations and raffle ticket sales at the fete on the Green create an operating surplus that is used to offset routine maintenance costs.

The surplus is put towards the costs of routine grounds maintenance including grass cutting, tree and path works, miscellaneous repairs and also offsets other costs including insurance.

The Trust does not receive routine funding from Bradford Council, although it has benefitted from small grants from time to time to assist with essential repairs and improvements.

If you would like to make a donation you can do so by making a BACS payment using sort code 30-91-12 and account number 03290973.

If doing so please contact us by email to confirm the donation made.

Many thanks for your support.
